The EU-China Business Association (EUCBA), the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) and BusinessEurope are organizing a webinar focused on the 'European Business In China: Business Confidence Survey 2024'. The webinar will take place on 26 June 2024 at 10h00 CEST.
Instead of the strong economic rebound that businesses had hoped for, China's reopening in 2023 brought more uncertainties for European firms operating in the country. China's deeper structural issuesโincluding sluggish demand, high levels of local government debt and the continued challenges in the real estate sectorโcontinued to weigh on the prospects of both domestic and foreign companies, and the economy overall.
With optimism over the near- and medium-term outlook fading, some companies have already started to re-evaluate their engagement with the Chinese market. Some of the strategies they are pursuingโincluding cutting costs and toning down expansion plansโhave the potential to add to China's economic woes and set a negative cycle in motion. If China is to prevent this cycle and rebuild investor confidence, it will need to urgently address the regulatory and market access barriers that are preventing European companies from contributing fully to its economy.
The program is as follows:
10:00 โ 10:05: Introduction by Ms. Gwenn Sonck, Executive Director of the EU-China Business Association (EUCBA)
10:05 โ 10:35: Presentation of the Business Confidence Survey by Mr. Adam Dunnett, Secretary General, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC)
